SHILLONG: The Khasi Disabilities Association has alleged that the Meghalaya Transport Corporation and other public transport fails to accept and recognize the Identification card issued by the Social Welfare Department for the disabled persons in the state. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma here , the Khasi Disabilities Association said, “The Meghalaya Transport Corporation has been directed to charge nominal rates for Persons with Disabilities but the MTC and public transport refuses to comply to the order.”According to KDA, the State Government should also provide the Persons With Disabilities the Smart Card of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) so that they can avail certain benefits from the scheme. The memorandum also urged the Government to implement 3 % Reservation Policy for Persons with Disabilities as announced by the Central Government through the PWD Act 1995 and again according to the Bill 2011 where the Central Government announced to implement the 6% (SI Percent) for Persons with Disabilities).
