SHILLONG: Opener Raj Biswa’s brilliant century went in vain as Manipur beat Meghalaya by 6 wickets in the final of the U-22 BCCI Associate and Affiliate Members’ Cricket Tournament played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

Winning the toss, Meghalaya elected to bat first and Raj Biswa (140) became the first batsman from the state to score a century in the historic Eden Gardens. Biswa’s effort took the team total to a competitive 233 in 50 overs for the loss of 10 wickets. Amiangshu Sen also chipped in with a steady 29.

Biswa became the highest scorer in the tournament.

In reply,  Manipur reached the target in the 48th over losing only four wickets. With this loss, Meghalaya missed the chance to feature in this season’s CK Nayudu Trophy.

“It was disappointing to end up in the losing side after performing so well. However, there are lots of positives to be derived from this performance,” MCA honourary secretary Naba Bhattacharjee told The Shillong Times after the match.
