Mawkyrwat: Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday urged teachers to identify, cultivate and nurture the strength of the students and link them to various skills development programmes promoted by the government.
“A professional should be able to identify the solution to any problems. Therefore, I salute Thomas Jones for his ability to identify the problems and needs of the Khasi people by introducing the alphabets,” Rymbui said while speaking as a chief guest at the Thomas Jones death anniversary observation cum general meeting organised by All Primary School Teachers Association (APSTA) at Nativity HS School, Mawkyrwat on Saturday.
“As teachers, you have to identify the potential and strength of the children and not only the weaknesses. Cultivate and nurture their core strength and teach them to reach their potential so that they can choose from skills development programme set up by the government,” Rymbui said.
Rymbui said education does not only mean knowledge received through academic studies, but also what we learn from our parents and the environment.
“The role of teachers, parents and all of us in the community is crucial. The type of environment that our children grow will contribute to their being. Therefore, we should be careful in setting examples to children,” he said, adding that if parents quarrel or teachers get drunk, children will also follow their footsteps.
The minister who was accompanied by local MLA and Chairman MIDC, Renikton L.Tongkhar also inaugurated the second floor building of the Maharam Govt Higher Secondary School at Mawkyrwat and also attended the Maniwell Jahrin Academic Award ceremony held at the auditorium of the school.
