Union for closure of illegal wine stores

TURA: Illegal country liquor stores in Boro Doldongs village, barely 2 km from the market centre and a school are posing a threat to students as youths from several nearby villages are reportedly taking advantage of the cheap liquor available and making the area a den for such activities.
Recently, more than 70 members from mothers’ union and mahila samithy went to the village in attempt to stop the sale of the illegal liquor.
They found that there were several women and men from the same village who were directly involved in making and supplying liquour to all the villages of Tikrikilla area.
On being questioned, they abused the women. Police from
Tikrikilla had to escort the women back for their safety.
Recently, three licensed foreign liquor shop at Gaghuapara Chamaguri Road were forced to close due to public pressure on earlier this year. Women and social groups are demanding similar action to oust these liquor dens permanently.
