SHILLONG: Governor Tathagata Roy, who visited NEIGRIHMS on Saturday to meet CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma, assured that he would speak to the chief minister and the DGP for action against the accused.
When asked whether he would recommend CBI probe into the incident, Roy said he would inform the Centre about “what is going on in the state”.
However, Roy was quick to add that “arrests have been made and those involved in the incident should be punished.
“As the constitution head of the state, I will not like to make much comment on the other aspects of the incident. Law and order being a state subject, the state government will be able to tackle it,” he asserted.
Kharshiing was admitted in NEIGRIHMS after she was brutally attacked in a village in East Jaintia Hills when she and her colleague went to follow up a case of illegal transportation of coal.
The condition of both Kharshiing and Sangma has improved over the last couple of days and both of them are showing signs of improvement.
The governor lauded the CSWO activist for her “courage in fighting against illegal coal transportation in East Jaintia Hills”.
“It was God’s providence that Kharshiing survived even though she was brutally assaulted,” the governor said.
