Tibetans observe hunger strike

SHILLONG: The Tibetans residing in Shillong have questioned the rUnited Nation Human Rights Council for turning a blind eye to the atrocities by China on the Tibetans.

The Tibetans in Shillong under the banner of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Regional Tibetan Women Association on Wednesday organised day long hunger strike to show their solidarity with those Tibetans who have self- immolated themselves against the atrocities of Chinese Government.

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress(RTYC) general secretary Wangchuk Lhamu said, We want to question the UNO and the UNHRC as to why they are turning a blind eye to the atrocities of China.According to Lhamu, last year, twenty five people self immolated themselves against Chinese control.

The hunger strike was organised commemorating the Tibetan New Year. During the day, the Tibetans kept their shops closed and sat on a hunger to strike. They also organised a candle light peace procession in the evening.
