NONGPOH: A delegation of NGOs along with the land owners on Wednesday met the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner at her office chamber to discuss the prevailing situations regarding setting up of entry point at 19 Mile where a group of few land owners protested stating that they have not received land compensation.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Ferdynald Kharkamni, President KSU NKHD said that the government should arrest and take stringent actions against those who protest against setting up of entry point at 19 Mile.

He further stated that the same people who protest now were the same who were present in the hearing conducted by the Meghalaya Institute of Governance on Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and did not protest during that time, Kharkamni added.

Meanwhile, village leaders of Umtyrnga village along with NGO leaders also discussed with the DC on issues related to the alleged land acquisition by the BSF in border villages of Meghalaya which include Nagrabil, Umsen, Umlathu and others. They urged the DC to put on hold for the proposed land acquisition and to take into confidence the local residents before taking any decision.
