Nuns mourn death of Sister Mary Candida

Shillong: The Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, more commonly known by its French acronym RNDM, which stands for Religieuses de Notre Dame Missions, has mourn the demise of Sister Mary Candida Khriam, RNDM, on Friday night in Guwahati.
On Saturday, the mortal remains of the late sister was brought to Shillong and kept at St Mary’s Convent. The body is kept in the Convent Chapel where religious, priests, friends and well-wishers of Sister Candida are paying their last respects for the repose of her soul.
Her funeral will be held on Sunday at the Catholic cemetery in Laitumkhrah. It will be preceded by a requiem mass at the St Mary’s convent Chapel at 1pm.
Born in 1938 at picturesque Mawsmai in Sohra (Cherrapunjee), Sister Khriam, joined the ranks of the RNDM sisters as a postulant (a candidate seeking admission into a religious order) at Chittagong in erstwhile East Pakistan, present day Bangladesh.
She was also one of the key persons involved when the Euphrasie Barbier Convent in Tluh, Jaintia Hills in 2000 and the Dona Marie Mission in Guwahati in 2003 were set up.
Sister Candida was also one of the key nuns who statrted work after the formation of the Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco , who are working now not only in different parts of Meghalaya and the Northeast region, but also elsewhere in India and abroad.
