SHILLONG: Village of Panaliar, Jowai has prohibited distribution of money within it in view of the ensuing Council elections.

The waheh chnong (headman) Riquoma Rq. Laloo has issued directions to be strictly followed even as the scheduled areas in the state are all gearing up for the Council elections scheduled on February.

On the day of voting, the village has prohibited its residents and non-residents to assemble or stand at 100 meter from the polling station.

The village will take punitive actions as per the rules if anybody is found indulging in using money power during polls and will be handed over to the authorities in the state.

Prohibiting any decoration for the state or the Yungwalieh (Community hall) during public meeting, the waheh chnong said the candidates are also not allowed to serve tea during the public meeting at the Yungwalieh and any public meeting of candidates held at the Yungwalieh should be chaired by the headman or the assistant headman.

Further, Laloo said no public meeting can be held beyond 10 pm at Yungwalieh of the village and only one supporter of the candidate should speak before the candidate. The candidate’s offspring are not allowed to speak at the Yungwalieh.

The candidate can bring only 12 supporters from outside the village of Panaliar and only two vehicles are allowed to enter the village.

Laloo stated that the residents of Panaliar can take part in the public meeting held by candidates from outside the village but are allowed to speak about village matters.

Vehicles are not allowed to park in the village if the public meeting is held in the neighbouring village and vehicles of supporters are not allowed to use high decibel music.
