SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma, on Tuesday said that he would make a few proposals and mechanisms to Assam to end the vexed boundary dispute between Meghalaya and the neighbouring state.
“I will propose a few mechanisms and they (Assam) can see if it can be a way forward to arrive at a solution,” Mukul said. He, however, did not elaborate.
According to Mukul, both Assam and Meghalaya as neigbours must work collectively for the growth and development of their people.
Earlier, he said that the contentious issue cannot be resolved without the involvement of all the political parties, which has happened in Meghalaya and it is about time that it happens in Assam as well.
“We got all the political parties together on the issue and have passed a resolution. The Assam government should try and do the same,” Mukul said.
It may be mentioned that there are twelve areas of difference between Assam and Meghalaya and years of discussions at various levels have been inconclusive with sporadic incidents of violence and skirmishes reported time and again along the inter-state boundary.
