SHILLONG: The State Police have refuted the allegation that bullets extracted from the Shillong jailbreak mastermind Fullmoon Dhar’s body were tampered with to destroy the evidence.

Deposing before the Justice (retd) SP Rajkhowa Commission of Inquiry probing the Shillong jailbreak incident, the then Superintendent of Police of Jaintia Hills, Mukesh Singh, on Saturday said he has no knowledge about any tampering with bullets as alleged by the Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD).

The senior police official, however, maintained that the “assumption” that three bullets had been extracted from the body of Fullmoon could be true.

According to SCAMoD, the police deformed the three bullets in order to destroy the evidence in the killing of the mastermind of Shillong jailbreak on May 31, 2009.

Fullmoon was killed in an alleged fake encounter a day after the jailbreak in what was alleged to be an attempt to protect the “conspirators” behind the jailbreak incident.

The Rajkhowa Commission is inquiring into the reason behind the jailbreak incident, the circumstances which led to Fullmoon’s death, circumstances which led to the arrest and the subsequent release of Congress politician Thomas Nongtdu, an accused in the case, and the extent of politician-criminal nexus on the jailbreak episode and other related matters on the issue.
