SHILLONG: Instances of illegal mining and transportation of coal continues to be reported in the state even after the National Green Tribunal took over the government’s task over its inability to contain illegal coal mining in the state.
DP Muktieh, Executive Magistrate lodged a complaint that on January 24 around 10 am, while conducting a mining raid at Mulait Bri Sutnga in East Jaintia Hills, they detected four persons — Md Alim Uddin, Md Ajmal Hussain, Md Mohan Uddin and Rubel Ahmed illegally extracting coal from a coal quarry belonging to one person identified as ‘Bad’ of Jalaphet village.
Previously on January 23 around 7 pm, police conducted ‘naka’ checking at Lad Umsaw in Ri Bhoi and detected one coal laden truck (ML-05J-3051).
On the same day, police detected one coal laden truck (ML-09A-0486) parked on the road at Songsak Chigitchakgre Reserve Forest in East Garo Hills.
