Annan appeals Syrian President to end violence

United Nations: Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League envoy on Syria, met the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus and had “candid and comprehensive” discussions with him. During the talks Annan put forth proposals for ending the violence and allowing access to humanitarian agencies in the country.

Annan met Assad on Saturday and will resume the talks with the Syrian leader on Sunday. During the talks, which Annan described as candid and comprehensive, the former UN chief expressed “grave concern” at the situation in Syria and urged the President to take concrete steps to end the current crisis, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson here.
