SHILLONG: Buoyed by the victory of the MDA partners in KHADC and JHADC, the ruling alliance is looking at a consensus on Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats.
Though the Congress has emerged as the single largest party with 10 members in the 29-member KHADC, the party is not in a position to form the Executive Committee as the numbers are not with them.
Compared to the Congress, the MDA partners — NPP, UDP, HSPDP and PDF and an Independent — together secured a total of 17 seats in KHADC though there was no pre-poll alliance among them.
In JHADC, NPP and UDP together have won 22 seats.
NPP president W R Kharlukhi said the victory is that of the MDA collectively.
He said with the partners getting upper hand in both the district councils, the issue of consensus for the two Lok Sabha seats will be discussed.
The UDP is projecting Jemino Mawthoh as the consensus candidate for Shillong and the party is open to discussions with the MDA partners in this regard.
For the Tura seat, the NPP is planning to field former MLA Agatha Sangma.
Cabinet Minister and NPP leader James Sangma also favoured the idea of consensus and said the matter will be discussed in the MDA.
UDP leader Donkupar Roy hoped that there will be a consensus among the coalition partners for the Lok Sabha polls.
