SHILLONG: In what might be considered as a blessing for the people of the state, an official from the Indian Oil Corporation on Saturday informed that the state may soon see its first ever LPG bottling plant.
Consumers in Shillong are often inconvenienced by the shortage of LPG cylnders.
The official also informed that IOC is awaiting environmental clearance for the project. “Besides, a public hearing is supposed to be held in April,” he added.
The bottling plant, which will be set up in Ri Bhoi, will produce 30,000 metric tonnes annually.
The estimated budget for the bottling plant is Rs 74 crore and will cater to the entire state. This also means that the state will no longer have to depend on the bottling plant in Assam.
The company currently has 10 bottling plants across the North East which operate at an utilisation rate of over 100 per cent.
The company will also upgrade its existing bottling facilities in Silchar, Bongaigaon and North Guwahati.
