SHILLONG: The returning officer in East Khasi Hills has informed that sharing or spreading any content or post, which are communally sensitive and has the potential to incite hatred, using any type of medium, including social media, is not only prohibited but a punishable offence under appropriate sections of IPC and IT Act.
The returning officer urged the public to refrain from committing such action to facilitate free and fair election, and for maintenance of peace, communal harmony and normal law and order situation in the region.
Proof of identity
The East Khasi Hills district election officer has informed that the following documents can be used as proof of identity at polling stations on April 11.
Documents include voter ID card (EPIC), passport, driving licence, service identity card issued to employees by central/state government/PSUs/public limited companies, passbook issued by bank/post office with photo, PAN card, smart card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, MNREGA job card, health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, pension document with photo, official identity card issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, Aadhaar.
Dry days
The Ri Bhoi administration has declared April 9, 10 and 11 dry days owing to the general elections and by-election. May 23 will also be dry day for counting of votes. The South West Khasi Hills deputy commissioner (Excise) also declared dry days in the district. The DC said strict enforcement of this order will be done through intensive checking, raids and other measures.
“This will include the date of re-poll, if any in the whole of South West Khasi Hills District,” the DC added.
