Meghalaya records highest polling in NE in first phase

SHILLONG: Meghalaya has registered the highest percentage increase in voters turnout  amongst the North Eastern states  compared the previous Lok Sbaha polls 2014  as the state registered an increase of  2.57  percent on turnout.

This was informed by the Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor here on Saturday.

It may be mentioned that elections for the two seats of Shillong and Tura in Meghalaya were held in the first phase on April 11 last. In the year 2014, the overall turnout in the state was 68.84  percent while in this year’s election, the turnout was 71.41  percent

After Meghalaya, Mizoram showed an increase of 1.96  per cent as far as voters turnout in comparison to the  2014  Lok Sabha polls.

On the other hand, all other North Eastern states showed a decrease as far as voters turnout in this year’s election

Arunachal Pradesh showed a decrease of 9.89 percent while  Assam showed a decrease of 0.59  percent.

Similarly, Nagaland showed a decrease of 5.41  per cent in turnout while in Manipur the decline was by 1.95 percent.
