SHILLONG/TURA: The Election Commission of India has scheduled the re-polling at Konachar polling station in Selsella constituency on April 15 from 7 am till 4 pm.
This was informed by the Principal Secretary of the Election Commission to the Returning Officer.
Simultaneous elections were held for Tura Lok Sabha and Selsella Assembly seats on Thursday.
However, there was a mismatch in the EVMs due to human error since there were two EVMs in the booth and the presiding officer there connected the ballot unit meant for Lok Sabha election with the control unit of the by-poll and the control unit for the Lok Sabha seat was connected with the ballot unit for the by-poll.
Following the mismatch, the State Election Commission had urged the ECI to conduct re-polling in the particular polling station.
There are altogether 712 voters in the polling station.
While Agatha Sangma of the NPP, Mukul Sangma of the Congress and Rikman Momin of the BJP were the three candidates in the Tura Lok Sabha election, for the Selsella by-election there were four aspirants— June Eliana Marak of the Congress, Ferline C A Sangma of the NPP, Adarsho Sangma of the BJP and Sayedullah Nongrum of the UDP.
The Selsella by-election is taking place following the demise of its sitting MLA and former cabinet minister Clement Marak in October last year.
