Mawkyrwat: The KSU South West Khasi Hills unit fully supported the demand of the Mawkyrwat Electricity Consumers Forum (MECF) that the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) should explain to the people about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Corporation with the Feedback Energy Distribution Company Limited ( FEDCO) before handing over of electricity services to the company.
Assistant general secretary of MECF, Michal Dingan informed that KSU on March 28 met the Chief Engineer (Commercial) of MEPDCL at Lumjingshai, Shillong to seek clarification on why MePDCL chose only Mawkyrwat and Mawsynram Division in Khasi-Jaintia Hills for handing over the work to FEDCO.
“We have asked MePDCL to gather the headmen and village leaders in Mawkyrwat, Ranikor and Mawsynram so that people will understand whether to accept or reject the project,” Dingan said.
He added that the union was not happy with the adamant attitude of MePDCL because till now they are not able to take the locals and especially the headmen into confidence before handing it over to the company.
He also said that the union demanded from the Chief Engineer that there should not be illegal influx to the area and should ensure that locals will be recruited for jobs under the company.
