NONGSTOIN: The SP of West Khasi Hills has informed that one of the arrested persons of Hahuapara village will be released on Monday.
Earlier, four persons namely Birlman Marak, Portis Sangma Albert Marak and Purno Marak were arrested by the Assam Police for organising a programme at a disputed area. While three of them were later released Purno is still under the custody of Assam police as there are other cases lodged against him under Boko Police station.
On April 15, the villagers of Hahuapara village had organised a programme and invited MLA Kimfa Marbaniang, however, he did not attend the programme due to the Model Code of Conduct.
The villagers had invited the local legislator of Rambrai-Jyrngam to inspect the road to Chongadare waterfalls, but was intervened by the Assam Police.
The District Administration should be informed about every function or activities to respect the Status quo.
However, during the recent event the District Administration was not notified. MLA Kimfa Marbaniang said that he was aware of the function but did not attend because of the model code of conduct.
When asked if he had informed the District Administration regarding the programme as it falls under the disputed area, Marbaniang said that maybe the villagers didn’t know about the procedure of informing the concerned authority.
