Former Assam Assembly Speaker passes away

GUWAHATI: Former Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA), Sheikh Chand Mohammed passed away early Saturday morning here. He was suffering from illness for quite some time.

Sheikh Chand Mohammed was the Speaker of the ALA during 1979-1986.

Earlier, Assam government had taken responsibility of treatment of the former speaker of Assam Assembly. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal had announced to take full responsibility for the former Speaker’s treatment by the state government.

On Behalf of the Chief Minister Sonowal, state’s Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, CM’s media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami and Law Adviser Shantanu Bharali paid floral tribute at the mortal remains of the former Speaker at his residence in the city.
