SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday stated that the Union Government had actually piloted the ‘truce agreement’ with the Garo rebel outfit — Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) in 2004.
Clarifying his statement on the deficiencies in the truce pact with the ANVC, the Chief Minister said, “I was referring to the government at the Centre and not the State because the entire exercise was initiated and executed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.”
He made it clear that the yripartiate peace pact signed with the ANVC was initiated by the then BJP-led NDA government.
“We are not engaging in any blame game,” Dr Sangma told reporters while maintaining that the strength of the breakaway ANVC group is below hundred.
While refusing to give any clear cut answer on the government’s approach in delaing with the breakaway faction of ANVC, he only stated that the government is already taking necessary action. Commenting on the GNLA, he stated that many cadres have send feelers that they wanted to surrender while many have already surrendered.
