Mihmyntdu celebrates Chad-Sukra festival

 JOWAI: The annual Chad Sukra or the Sowing festival was celebrated at Mihmyntdu village on Thursday.

The Chad-Sukra was attended by Education Minister Dr. RC Laloo as the chief guest, JHADC Chairman Obil Kyndait, JHADC EM, MB Rymbai, PWD Chief Engineer, SB Chyrmang besides others.

The Chad Sukra, which signifies the advent of spring and signals the time for people to start sowing their seeds in their respective fields, was organized by the Dorbar Shnong Niam-tre, Mihmyntdu village.

Pnar people believe particularly those who still believe in traditional faith that a farmer could start sowing the seeds on his land only after the festival is over.

The festival is observes to call upon God, the Creator, to protect their crops from all forms of natural calamities. It also symbolizes peace and harmony among the people in the village.

Residents from six localities including Loom Pyrdi, Loom Pyrtuh, Loom Chyrmang, Riat Sylia, Nein Chnong, Loom Chyrmit and Mookymphad took part in the festival and various dances were also performed.
