SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) vice president, Thomas Passah, has extended support to the demand of traditional heads from Nongthymmai Pyllun to drop some of the Scheduled Tribes from the Presidential Order, 1950.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said Scheduled Tribes (STs) from other states claim the same status in Meghalaya.
He added that the government, the district council and NGOs should look into the matter seriously.
Earlier, the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong, Nongthymmai Pyllun, have demanded that the chief minister take up the matter with the Centre to amend the list of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes in the Presidential Order applicable in Meghalaya.
