TURA: Members of the All Garo Hills Trained Electrician Association in Tura have registered a complaint with the superintendent engineer of the Meghalaya Electrical Power distribution Corporation (MEPDCL) accusing the company of failing in its duty to supply uninterrupted power to the consumers of the state.

The association pointed out that under the central government’s SAUBHAGYA Scheme, all BPL families were entitled to power connection including free wiring facility and low transmission service connection in their households.

And yet, none of the BPL families in the village of Bugigre in Deku area of Chokpot block have been able to avail of this government subsidy for the last many years because no power supply has been drawn to the village.

In Tura, the association raised the demand for replacement of the damaged transformer at Deran Gittim locality of Chitoktak where BPL families have not been able to draw power for the last many years for want of a new machine.

The association also urged the power corporation authorities to ensure supply of uninterrupted power for the benefit of the student community who are appearing for their half yearly examinations, beginning this month, and complained about MEPDCL staff being engaged in domestic wiring work.
