Hek seeks funds for guest houses, hostels From Our Special

NEW DELHI: Arts and Culture Minister AL Hek held a meeting with Union Minister for Culture, Prahlad Singh Patel in New Delhi and urged him to sanction Rs 10 crore for construction of guest houses and hostels for both men and women at the Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) at Mawkasiang.
The DoNER aided multi-crore project would, in the long run, host mega events of music, dance, films and theatre particularly showcasing Northeast culture, arts and craft and it will be a venue for exchanging cross culture with other states and countries.The centre has an open air ampitheatre, performance space, banquet halls, international guest houses and international convention centre with state-of-the art facilities.
It will also house a training centre offering skill development courses in music, art, films, television and multimedia for the youths of Meghalaya and other Northeastern states and a museum showcasing arts and crafts of the region. Proposed to be a landmark of the hill state, the guest houses and hostels will provide accommodation to hundreds of guests as well as artists who will come there to perform, Hek said.
