Meghalaya House panel on environment to inspect hospitals, rivers, industrial sites

SHILLONG:Chairman S K Sunn, of theCommittee on Environment of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly said the committee would visit important rivers, industrials sites, hospitals to check if standard environmental procedures are met.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said the committee has chalked out a plant to visit two important rivers- Simsang and Ganol, Umiam Industrial areas, cement factories to check how waste water is discharged into the environment.

Member of the committee, HM Shangpliang said the Committee on environment will also check the pollution by vehicles.

He said, “I have not seen the pollution testing unit of the Transport department. The Transport department is sleeping and it is idle. Vehicles emit black fumes.”

Even hospitals have come under scanner as well since concerns were raised on whether hospitals have incinerators or not. Besides incinerators, the proper disposal of garbage will also be viewed.
