Agartala: The heavy monsoon shower in past two days affected public life in Tripura and disrupted surface communication within and outside the state.
Most parts of Agartala have been inundated since Saturday due to heavy shower.
The district administration has opened about 30 relief camps in and around Agartala and evacuated more than a thousand people so far. At least nine boats have been pressed into action in the city for shifting the affected people while two were sent on mobile in distress pockets, said DM (West) Sandeep R Mahatme here on Sunday.
He said, “We have been making public announcement in eastern and southern outskirt of Agartala calling the habitants to shift in the relief camps, as weather forecast issued warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in next 24 hours across the state. However, all possible steps have been taken to manage the eventuality.”
The major parts of the city have been under water since last night.
However, state nodal officer of disaster management Dr Sarat Das said that water level of all 10 major rivers of Tripura have crossed the critical level and a few have also touched the danger mark.
“The adequate safety measures across the state have been undertaken considering impending threat of flash flood and water-logging in the low-lying areas,” Das stated.
He however, pointed out that administration has been equipped to rescue the people.
Meanwhile, in many places of North and South Tripura water is flowing on the national highways. The journey of all the long distance trains have been cancelled yesterday following landslide in multiple locations in hills of Tripura and Assam. (UNI)
