Wait for the outcome of  the meeting, CM urges NGOs

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: The State government has decided to convene an all-party meeting next week to break the deadlock over enrollment of “dubious” voters in the State.

“We have decided to convene a meeting on May 8 with all political parties in the State in view of the suggestions that had come up from them,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters here on Wednesday.

Dr Sangma said, “I am hopeful that something positive would emerge and we will take necessary steps after the meeting with all political parties.”

“The Government in fact wanted to call this meeting at the earliest,” he said adding that political parties are now given some time to prepare for the meeting.

After completing the exercise with the political parties, he said the Government would then invite the NGOs and share with them various valuable inputs which would emerge in the all-party meeting.

When asked if he had briefed the Election Commission about opposition to the ongoing enrollment process, the Chief Minister said “I would definitely be briefing the EC on the matter once I complete various exercises planned by the government”.

Expressing concern over the inconveniences being faced by the common man due to the agitations of the NGOs, he urged the agitating NGOs not to call any fresh agitation and wait for the “outcome of the engagement” with the political parties.
