Union forms committee to pursue demand for govt college

NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi Students Union (RBSU), on Saturday formed the Eastern Ri Bhoi College Demand Committee pressuring their long pending demand for setting up of a government hoi.
The committee was formed in a meeting convened by the union leaders along with the headman of several villages of Bhoirymbong area at Umroi on Saturday. Amberlight Masharing, working president of the union informed that the demand for a government college has been one of the core issues of the union for many years concerning the welfare of the students in the district.
Masharing lamented that only 6 districts have government colleges and Ri Bhoi, despite being one of the oldest, does not have one for students aiming to pursue higher studies.
He also said that the Eastern Ri Bhoi College has been serving the underprivileged for more than a decade and the government should now upgrade it to a government college.
