SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong, who is heading the committee of all political parties to examine the various guidelines of the Election Commission (EC) in relation to the ongoing enrolment drive in the State, has said that they have been given limited time to take care of such a huge responsibility.
Stating that the committee has only about two days to sit before finally submitting the report to the Government, Lanong said that the team would try its level best to come up with appropriate recommendations which could be adapted and suit the situation in the State.
He said that the main job of the committee is come up with recommendations in order to facilitate registration of genuine and eligible voters with least inconveniences to them.
“We also have been asked to identify issues and concerns which are causing difficulties in the enrolment process and prepare a memorandum so that the matter could be taken up with the EC,” Lanong said here on Monday.
Replying to a query, he said that the committee would also be discussing at length on the issues which has been raised by the NGOs.
The Deputy Chief Minister however stated that the committee would submit its report on May 17 as per the deadline given by the State Government.
He also informed that the committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting at 4 pm on Tuesday.
