SHILLONG: The District Magistrate and District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has prohibited candidates contesting the Shella Assembly bypoll or their agents or the political parties from wall writing, pasting of posters, papers or defacement in any other form, or erecting, displaying cut-outs, hoardings, banners etc, on any public property or public premises. Political parties or candidates are also prohibited from putting up of banners on all roads, thoroughfares.
The election will be held on October 21.Similar prohibition has also been put in place for private property, walls without the written permission from the house-owners and final approval from the office of the Returning Officer, 26-Shella (ST) Assembly constituency. Besides, election meeting would not be allowed without taking permission from the office of the Returning Officer and subsequently local headmen regarding the venue.
No PA system will be allowed to be used between 10 PM and 6 AM.
Rallies and processions will also not be allowed without the permission from the Returning Officer.
The order issued under CrPC 144 will remain in force till the election process is over.
Limit on carrying money
No person or group of persons can carry money above Rs 50,000 in the district.
Arms and weapons
The District Magistrate has also directed all license holders to deposit their arms and weapons without fail in the nearest police station/outpost/beat-house during the ongoing Model Code of Conduct.
