SHILLONG: Meghalaya went down to Manipur in a league quarterfinal match of the Santosh Trophy at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Striker Chathaiba Singh scored the match-winner for Manipur in the 62nd minute when he headed one from a free-kick from outside the box.

Meghalaya coach L Darlong said, “Our defenders were certain that the Manipur player who headed the ball into the nets was off side and hence was left unguarded. This proved fatal for us.”

The match though was evenly contested and a draw would have been a fair result, Darlong said.

Meghalaya take on Goa in the next match on Sunday.
