Hundreds participate in Green Run

 SHILLONG: Around 500 people participated in the Green Run organised by the Unitarian Church of North East as part of its quasquicentennial celebrations on Saturday.

The run under the theme Save humankind from itself’, was flagged off from Madan Iewrynghep (Fire Brigade ground) to Madan Laban with an aim to create awareness on the need to conserve the environment.

The event saw participation from people of all age groups.

Three-year old Feniliza Lyngdoh was the youngest marathoner while sixty-year old S Roy, the oldest participant.

Balarisha Nongrum won in the girl’s category followed by Rukheshar Malik at second and Battimon Marbah at the third position. In the boys category Dondorlang Kharbithai was the winner while Shimborlang Dohling finished second followed by Lostar Mukhim who was the third to cross the finish line.

Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Sanjay Goyal lauded the theme for the Green Run, while adding that it was encouraging to see the Church providing a platform for sensitising people on environmental issues.
