TURA: Forest authorities in Garo Hills have shut down an illegal stone crusher in the Rajabala-Phulbari region which had been operating even after it had been ordered to close down.
Earlier, authorities had discovered three firms that were violating the norms and directed them to shut down operations.
While the owners of two illegal crushers complied and ceased operations, the owner of one crusher identified as Noor Jalan Kazi in New Bhaitbari refused to cooperate. This left forest authorities with no other choice but to conduct a raid.
The illegal crusher was reportedly in violation of a number of laws, including orders by the State Pollution Control Board. Around 20 truckloads of boulders were also seized during the raid.
