MCL pushes for ban on use of plastic

JOWAI: Meghalaya Cement Limited (MCL), popularly known as Topcem Cement, has taken initiatives to ban single-use plastic in three villages namely Thangskai, Wahiajer and Chiehruphi as well as on the plant’s premises. To create awareness among the residents of the three villages, the cement plant, under the leadership of its president, RK Pareek, organised an awareness programmed on Thursday at Thangskai Community Hall, which was attended by hundreds of villagers from the three villages as well as their headmen and Chairman of the Elaka, Sibiren Sumer who is also the adviser to the three village welfare committee and other officials of the cement plant.
The headman of Chiehruphi stressed on the importance of abandoning the use of plastics, while the president of the MCL said that dustbins will also be provided to them if they wished to contribute to the cause.
The MCL distributed biodegradable bags to villagers as an encouragement to ban plastic.
