TURA: “The current EC is functioning illegally. If the court verdict is in our favour, we, the Garo Hills Democratic Alliance will review all settlement matters relating to haats, ghats and mahals”.
This was informed by Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Deputy Chairman, Metrinson G Momin, who has demanded that the settlement of various ‘haats, ghats and mahals’ in the GHADC is put on hold for the time being as all matters relating to it are currently sub judice.
“All matters of the GHADC are currently under court sub judice as we are waiting for the judgement from High Court. Under the condition, no one can take any decision or settle important matters. They can only continue in the EC if the HC verdict is in their favour. If not, they have to discontinue and face the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition,” Momin said on Wednesday.
Metrinson pointed out that the EC led by Dipul R Marak was reduced to minority as they secured only 13 votes against the Opposition’s 15 in the recently held elections to the post of the GHADC deputy chairman.
He added that besides being a minority, the matter has been placed in court which makes it illegal for the current EC to function.
Metrinson also blamed GHADC Chairman, Denang T Sangma for the mess in the GHADC and accused him of not upholding democratic norms and rules of the district council.
