SHILLONG: The Bangladesh Government is contemplating investment in certain key sectors in the State.
This was informed by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Tarik Ahmad Karim, after his brief interaction with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here on Thursday.
Stating that they have many priorities in mind, Karim said they would like to invest in those areas which are practicable and quick.
When asked about the priorities, he said they would definitely want to invest in setting up of cement factories where they would draw raw materials available in the State.
He added that the Bangladesh Government would also like to invest in agro-based food processing industries.
“We have also discussed other areas including the tourism sector,” Karim said.
Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has informed that besides the power sector, the Government is also looking forward to give value addition to limestone mining.
“We would like to have some value addition in the form of clinker than to export limestone in its raw form. This will also help to generate employment in our State,” the Chief Minister said.
He also said that the State Government would also be looking into setting up a processing unit to give finishing touches to all agro-horti produces in the State.
“We would like to ensure that our materials fetch better price so that we can have processing units to ensure value addition for agro horticulture products,” he added.
