SHILLONG: The Congress MDC of Rambrai-Jyrngam, Bajop Pyngrope petitioned the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, Latiplang Kharkongor, to move a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
In a letter to Kharkongor, who is also the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader of the United Democratic Front (UDF), Pyngrope said that the aim of passing a resolution is to oppose the Act for the interest of the people.
Speaking to reporters, Pyngrope said a session should be called to oppose CAA and hailed Kerala government for filing a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Act. “We have to oppose CAA tooth and nail,” he said.
Extending support to the implementation of ILP, he said that the institution of Sixth Schedule should be retained while the system of ILP should also be in place.
Meanwhile, Kharkongor said that he will consult with the MDCs and look into the matter accordingly.
