GUWAHATI:Paresh Baruah-led anti-talk faction of ULFA Sunday refuted the contention of jailed NDFB leader Ranjan Daimary that the government’s approach towards the outfit was “soft”.

“Daimary’s recent statement that the government was soft on ULFA but was continuing operations against NDFB was not only incorrect but also misleading,” ULFA ‘publicity in-charge’ Arunodoy Dohotiya said. Security forces are continuing operations against ULFA cadres and indulging in fake encounters to kill innocent people, Dohotiya alleged. “It is true that a section of our outfit (ULFA) are enjoying the protection of the government and operations have been suspended against them but security forces have actually intensified operations against those who are committed to the spirit and ideals of the outfit,” he said, adding that Daimary’s statement would cause confusion in the minds of ULFA cadres and people who support it.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has said operations would continue against those demanding sovereignty but “we are prepared to give up our lives and will in no way compromise on the issue of sovereignty,” he said.

“NDFB under Daimary was also not prepared to compromise on their basic principles and as such intensified operations were continuing against their cadres,” he said.(PTI)
