Shillong: The farmers and consumers protection cell of the KSU Central Body served a 15-day deadline to the State Government on Wednesday demanding the removal of Meghalaya State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commision (MSCDRC) acting president Ramesh K Bawri.

The chairman of the farmers and consumers protection cell, KSU, Peter Lawai said that the Union was disappointed with the lackadaisical attitude of the Government while handling the matter.

Highlighting the reason for their demand, Lawai said the acting president, Bawri was a prominent business and hence “does not qualify” to hold the post. “Bawri will not understand the grievances of the consumers as he is a businessman,” the KSU member added.

Lawai informed that the Union had sent a letter to the Minister incharge of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, Prof RC Laloo in January 2012. But there has been no response from the Government so far.

Further reiterating their demands, the Union stated that if the government failed to respond within the 15-day deadline, they will be forced to take up further steps to get the attention of the authorities.
