Govt advisory to prevent coronavirus

SHILLONG: Meghalaya is still safe from the novel coronavirus outbreak as no cases have been reported in the state till now.
The State Surveillance Officer, Department of Health and Family Welfare in a statement advised the public to stay calm, not to panic and not to spread false rumours through social media.
The officer also issued guidelines for persons with no symptoms of the virus but have travelled from China and affected countries.
The guidelines include strict home quarantine for 28 days from the date of departure from the affected country, adding outdoor movement should be restricted and sharing common spaces in house such as living room, TV room, dining room should be avoided.
The advisory also asked the people to wear facemask and wash hands frequently with soap and water.
If symptoms of fever, cough or breathlessness occurs, the person should report to the 24X7 helpline number 108 or to the state/district health teams that are monitoring on a daily basis.
As far as the guidelines for the general public, the officer said that they must avoid close contact with people who are on home quarantine and those who are sick.
“Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover your nose and mouth when you cough sneeze with a tissue/towel,” the guidelines said.
