‘Complainant has personal grudge against police’

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has asserted that there is no necessity for CBI inquiry over coal issue in East Jaintia Hills district based on ‘mere complaint’ by one individual.
In a statement issued on Friday, the HANM, Jaintia Hills has said, “We are shocked to learn that the Lokayukta had order a CBI inquiry in connection of coal based on mere complaint filed by an individual who is not even a resident of Meghalaya.
It is true that in spite of the blanket ban imposed by the Supreme Court, transportation of coal is taking place from time to time by some individuals not only from East Jaintia Hills District but also from the other districts of the state wherever coal deposits are available, the organisation said.
“The state police are handling the situation and stopped the illegal transportation of coal. There has been more than 600 hundred cases registered against the unfair businessmen who attempted to transport coal illegally but somehow, they managed to escape and reach their destination which necessarily does not underline that the police department has failed to control/check the illegal transportation of coal,” the statement said. The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement has alleged that the complainant has personal grudge against the police department and the district administration.
While stating that illegal transportation of coal is happening in other districts of Meghalaya, the organisation said, “If according to the complainant, illegal transportation of coal is being carried out in East Jaintia Hills, then why is the person not asking for CBI inquiry in other districts.”
“We do not support or oppose anyone. We also do not endorse any illegal activity of any one. But seeing the present situation, we are bound to tell the truth that why the CBI inquiry only for East Jaintia Hills district,” the HANM said in the statement.
