SHILLONG: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched ‘Young Scientist Programme’ resumes its training from May 11 to 22 where the interest students will be imparted with space educations.
Last year has launched a special programme for school children named as ‘Young Scientist Programme’ or ‘Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA)’ in tune with the Government’s vision ‘Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’ and also as part of the vision to expand the ongoing Capacity Building and outreach initiative of ISRO.
The programme is aimed at imparting basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science, and Space Applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of Space activities.
The programme is for young and meritorious students who are studying in 9th standard (in the academic year 2019-20).
The residential training will be for two weeks duration from May 11 to 22.
Three students from each State/Union Territory will be selected to participate in this programme covering State/CBSE/ICSE syllabus. Five additional seats are reserved for Overseas Citizen on India (OCI) candidates across country.
The selection will be based on 8th standard marks and extracurricular activities through online registration. The interested students can register online through ISRO website: www.-isro.gov.in from February 3 to 24.
The students selected from Northeastern states and West Bengal will be attending the YUVIKA programme at North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC).
The participants will be given a chance to visit the ISRO rocket launching Centre, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota during the programme.
The selected students will be accommodated in ISRO guest houses/hostels and expenditure towards the travel of student, course material, lodging and boarding etc., during entire course will be borne by ISRO. II AC train fare will also be provided for one guardian/parent for drop and pick up of student from reporting centre.
