SHILLONG: Governor Tathagata Roy said that Meghalaya has abundance of resources that can be made into product. “Agro-based products, if systematically cultivated and packed with MSMEs as facilitators, it can create a whole new platform for the entrepreneurs, the governor said”.
The governor was speaking as the chief guest during a conference on SC-ST Entrepreneurship and Women Empowerment at the State Convention Centre, Shillong on Thursday. It was organised by the MSME Export Promotion Council.
“If the ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) can act as a facilitator, it can create a whole new platform for the entrepreneurs,” he added.
Roy further stated that the Northeastern region has special status for women and Meghalaya being a matrilineal society has an advantage for women entrepreneurs to explore the opportunities available in the state. “We are trying to make our entrepreneurs be job-givers rather than job-seekers, he said.
Health & Family Welfare Minister AL Hek, who was the guest of honour said that entrepreneurs should look at the market scenario and conceptualise their products accordingly to be successful.
Other who spoke at the inaugural programme include chairman, MSME Export Promotion Council, DS Rawat, chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Theilin Phanbuh and Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Commerce & Industries Department, B Mawlong.
