SHILLONG: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Monday informed that authorities have been able to contain the breach which occurred in the Solartek Majhipara embankment, which had resulted in partial to total inundation of villages in and around Phulbari, Bhaitbari, Rajabala, Paham and other areas.

He also said that directions have also been given to PWD Roads (E&D) to take all possible steps to prevent further breach of the Solartek-Majhipara embankment.

Around 5000 bags of sand have been dumped into the river to prevent further breach of the embankment and 2000 more have been requisitioned.

According to Bakshi, around 14,700 households in about 100 villages have been affected by the flood.
