NONGSTOIN: Condition of Pynskhemlang Nong-shlong and others became serious cause of worry on Monday as their fast-unto-death in Langpih entered the third day.

The 28-year-old youth from Rambrai village in West Khasi Hills district went on an indefinite strike on Saturday to mount pressure on the Meghalaya government to sort out the vexed border dispute with Assam.

Pynskhemlang’s heath condition deteriorated on Monday. The octogenarian Nianghian Samakha is also facing delicate medical condition. His blood pressure level on Monday increased from 170/120 to 180/130.

Doctors advised another 73-year-old agitator to withdraw the fast as his health condition showed deterioration on Monday. The total number of participants now undertaking the fast unto death has now reached 12. Many more are expected to join in the days to come, sources said. Meanwhile, the Khasi Students’ Union under the leadership of Davis Goldfield Wanniang, president Nongstoin Circle, has expressed solidarity with the agitators.
