SHILLONG: The state government is in talks with the Defence authorities to convert the Military Hospital in the city into a COVID-19- only hospital to deal with any exigency.
Health Minister AL Hek on Wednesday said there is no immediate crisis to take the army’s assistance, but wants to be prepared.
Hek also informed that Military Hospital has 140 beds which could be of help during an emergency.
The minister, who has visited all the districts to review the COVID-19 preparedness, said that he was ‘very satisfied’ with the arrangements.
“We are working day and night and have held review meetings with everyone in almost all districts,” he said while adding that the state government is taking care of migrant labourers stranded in the state.
“The response to the fight against this disease has been encouraging and everyone on the ground including DCs, SPs, magistrates, health workers and community leaders have been working hard,” he said.
“Our government is fighting all out to ensure the safety of every citizen,” Hek added.
