NONGPOH: Toughening its stand against the indifferent attitude of the state government towards solving the impasse over enrollment of people of 12 villages under the Raid Nongtung of the Block II area in the state’s electoral roll, the Khasi Students Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills district, has served a seven-day deadline to the government to solve issue.

The KSU unit took this decision after a meeting with the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner and the Electoral Roll officer on Monday.

It may be mentioned that people of the 12 villages under the Raid Nongtung of the Block II area had unanimously decided not to adhere to the direction issued by the Assam government on EPIC as they already have their EPIC issued by Meghalaya government.

The Assam Government, reportedly, is pressurizing them to get their EPIC done with Assam.

The State Government has not taken any kind of initiative to enroll them in the state’s electoral roll, the KSU unit said.

A delegation of the KSU unit recently met the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong at Block II to discuss this issue. “It is surprising to know that the Block II area had been marked as disputed area while most of the local residents are the Khasis and Pnar,” he said.
