SHILLONG: The Ka Sur u Paitbah Hynniewtrep (the voice of the Hynniewtrep) has opposed the decision of the government to home quarantine those who have returned from Rajasthan and other red zone areas, a statement said.
While stating that it has been monitoring various incidents in Meghalaya through a WhatsApp group, the organisation said that “home quarantine is like filling water in a bucket with hole”.
It pointed at the recent case of a woman who was home quarantined and then later tested positive for the virus. “The irony is that when the government is already aware that home quarantine is a failure, still it encourages the practice. Did the government not learn a lesson? For Meghalaya, the position is so far good, however, now that the interstate movement has started, if the situation backfires, it is on the state government and step down on grounds of incompetence,” the organisation said.
It also expressed dissatisfaction with regard to the promise of the government to provide a package of Rs 1,000 per head which was further decreased to Rs 700.
Moreover, most of the daily wages laborers have not even received the grant, it stated.
“The government has to listen to the people and their grievances, and not necessarily to immediately impose a fine. It is difficult for us to meet the government at this junction, we want the Government to be informed of the grievances of the people by any means possible, and we hope it will hear us,” the organisation said.
